After presenting a first prototype at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019, the German start-up Novus has launched pre-orders for its eponymous electric motorcycle. The opportunity to discover in detail its features and its price.
The Novus electric motorcycle had captivated the community with its design, which had the merit of arousing curiosity and astonishment. This two-wheeler had a gaping hole in the middle of its frame at the time of its induction in January 2019, on the occasion of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) of Las Vegas. But at the time, the machine was only at the prototype stage.
Production in 2022
Water has since flowed under the bridges, and the motorcycle has gradually become a more and more concrete project. So much so that the young German shoot behind this project has launched pre-orders for its bike, tells us Electrek. Objective: to attract as many customers as possible to launch production of its racing car in the course of 2022.
While at the time almost no specification had been released, the product sheet published on the company’s website greatly fills this gap. The Novus has the particularity of being mainly made of carbon fiber: frame, fork and swingarm are equipped with them, as are the rims installed on 18-inch wheels.
With a total weight of 75 kilos, the model is 184 centimeters long, 76 centimeters wide and 94 centimeters high. Its supported load is 125 kilograms. A year and a half ago, the firm from across the Rhine announced a power of 14 kW: today, its engine claims 18 kW, or 24 horsepower, for a torque of 200 Nm.
Its 4.3 kWh battery also gives it a range of 100 kilometers, and recharges from 0 to 80% in the space of 30 minutes. But the real peculiarity of Novus lies in its mode of operation: no physical key is assigned to it, because only a smartphone can unlock it via the application or an NFC chip.
A support dedicated to the mobile device is thus invited to the center of the handlebars. Then, the entire user experience is provided by an application or an LED screen, of your choice. The app allows you to modify general settings and activate various features. For example, the user can limit his maximum speed in a few clicks, consult the statistics of a route or take advantage of a navigation service.
Add add-on to take advantage of more power is also possible: by paying 1000 dollars, Novus will be able to reach a top speed of 90 km / h, against 2000 dollars for a maximum speed of 120 km / h. Active and passive regenerative braking has also been added: on the one hand, when the rear brake is engaged, and on the other, when the pilot releases the accelerator.
On the other hand, the note will be very steep for the most interested: from 46,284 euros, in exchange for a deposit of $ 1,000. Five colors make up the offer: white, blue, red, silver and gold.
