The rescue services of Picardy Wallonia were alerted on Saturday evening, around 11:40 p.m., that a fire had broken out in a villa located along the rue de la Résistance on the borders of the villages of Kain and Mont St-Aubert. Coming from the Tournai and Estaimpuis barracks, a self-ladder, two pumper, two tankers and a command vehicle were dispatched to the site.
“It was an old villa which was abandoned”, explains Captain Grégory Petit who led the intervention. “The building consisted of a ground floor, an upper floor and an attic. This house was very difficult to access. The path was too narrow for our vehicles. So we had to draw lines to attack the fire. ”
The firefighters remained on site until 3:00 a.m.
Despite the resources deployed, the roof was completely destroyed. The damage, due to smoke and water, is also very important in the rest of the building.
This villa was no longer connected to the electricity network. The fire is therefore suspect, especially since, according to the police, the premises were regularly squatted. An investigation was opened by the police in the Tournaisis area.
