The administration justifies this subsidy by “exceptionally high energy prices in 2021”. “Thanks to this package, nearly a million families will see their energy consumption costs decrease immediately,” comments Pierre-Yves Dermagne, Minister of the Economy.
The amount will be directly and automatically paid by the supplier who supplied the beneficiary with electricity on September 30, 2021. No specific request must therefore be made. The energy supplier will communicate no later than January 31 and the amount must then be paid no later than within 12 working days.
The SPF has also confirmed that energy customers who are entitled to an increased intervention in the first quarter of 2022 will benefit from the social tariff until March 31, 2022 inclusive. This measure was first applicable between February 2021 and December 31, 2021 inclusive, but it is now extended by 3 months.
