The CDU delegates have decided: Armin Laschet is to lead the party in the future. At the party convention on Saturday, 521 of the 1001 delegates voted for Laschet in a runoff election against Friedrich Merz. The Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia is accused of trying too hard to find a balance and not pursuing his own idea. In fact, Armin Laschet is trying to involve all the wings of the party. In his state cabinet, for example, the head of the workers’ wing in the NRW CDU can be found as well as the head of the SME Union.
