But we are never safe from a connection problem, because it receives poorly in certain rooms or for another problem. A repeater that is easy to install and use
Like Xiaomi’s other Wi-Fi repeaters, the Mi WiFi Range Extender AC1200 takes the form of a black box with two antennas that plugs into an electrical outlet. It does not stand out for its design since in any case, it is intended to be forgotten in the corner of a room. In this way, it is very similar to the WiFi Range Extender Pro from the same Chinese manufacturer. There is also an Ethernet socket under the repeater to directly connect a laptop, decoder or console.
Installation is carried out via the Xiaomi Home application available on Android and iOS, this is the best method since it is the only one allowing you to take advantage of the 5 GHz signal. The other method using the WPS button on the repeater allows access to the 2.4 GHz signal only. The functionality of the application is however limited, you can only change the names of the SSIDs and the associated passwords, and check for updates. It is also possible to indicate a backup Wi-Fi network to repeat in case the main one is out of order.
Can do better on performance
According to Xiaomi, its Wi-Fi repeater uses dual-band technology providing a total speed of 1,200 Mb/s (300 Mb/s on the 2.4 GHz signal and 867 Mb/s on the 5 GHz signal ) over a span of 1,500 m². However, several independent tests have noted concerns. The Range Extender AC1200 remains efficient overall when plugged in close to the router. On the other hand, he suffers greatly when he moves away from it a little. In addition, the performance of the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals is approximately the same while the latter is supposed to stand out.
Clearly, if it is for light use with a laptop or smartphone such as office automation or watching videos, or extending the signal to reach connected devices, this repeater does the trick. On the other hand, if it is for heavier use such as multiplayer gaming, it is better to forget it and look for another model. In the latter case, even the Ethernet socket cannot help since its speed is limited to only 100 Mb/s.
