The Government announced this Thursday through the mouth of Iván Redondo, director of the President’s Cabinet, that it will create a Spanish Space Agency. The networks have been filled with memes parodying the possibility of a Spanish-style NASA and remembering that, at least in fiction, there have already been similar projects, with hilarious results, in mythical comedies such as ‘The Astronaut’, a film starring Tony Leblanc, or even in ‘Mortadelo y Filemón’ and his ‘Intergalactic Space Mission’.

Beyond the canned laughter, the unexpected announcement comes after years with the Government undervaluing the Spanishness of the First Circumnavigation, a feat only comparable to the arrival of man on the Moon, and denying praise to the success story
