This Wednesday, November 3, the institutions that were part of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in its 2021 list were known, three of which are from Antioquia, the University of Antioquia, EAFIT and the UPB. This list groups the best universities in five areas: teaching, research, citations, international vision, and industry entry.
Both EAFIT and the UPB are part of the 1201+ segment, while the UdeA is in the 1001-1200.
Isabel Gutiérrez Ramírez, director of Strategic Direction of EAFIT, mentions that this recognition is one of the most important in the international arena, “Times Higher Education’s world university rankings are the only global performance measures that evaluate research-intensive universities in all of their major missions.”
Likewise, the rector of EAFIT, Claudia Restrepo shared through her Twitter account that in total there are ten Colombian universities that are part of this list. The others would be those of Rosario, Norte, La Sabana and Universidad Industrial de Santander, Los Andes, La Nacional and, the one with the best position, in the group 5001-600, La Javeriana.
The Times Higher Education World University list that has been compiled since 2004 is produced by the magazine of the same name, which is published in the United Kingdom, is published weekly and deals mainly with education issues. In 2009 they broke with their ally QS, which since then also offers its own ranking and both the University of Antioquia, EAFIT and the UPB topped that list in the department, in that order.
