It will be necessary to wait until Tuesday, May 9, for the statutory and ethics council of the Medef to decide to officially validate their candidacy, but in all likelihood, three bosses will be on the starting line for the succession of Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux at the head of the employers’ organization. Three out of the five who had declared themselves since the opening of applications in early March.

Olivier Klotz did not wait for May 5, and withdrew in April in favor of Pierre Brajeux. The surprise candidate, Guillaume Cairou, president of the Yvelines Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who only declared himself in mid-April, only received 80 sponsorships out of the 150 expected.

A threshold largely exceeded by Dominique Carlac’hvice-president and spokesperson for Medef, who collected 345 signatures, and by Patrick Martin, delegate president of the employers’ organization which – without having revealed the exact number of its supports -, would count around 400 sponsorships. Pierre Brajeux, the delegate president of the French Federation of Private Security, for his part, would enter the race with just over 150 supporters.

The campaign therefore opens for good and will last until July 6, not without reminding the previous election of 2018 where the current suitors were already candidates. They will have two months to attract the votes of the 1100 delegates from professional and territorial organizations. Already, Dominique Carlac’h has appealed to his rivals to organize a debate, while many imagine the election has already been played, Patrick Martin appearing as the natural successor to the current boss of bosses.
