The police have arrested three men who are suspected of setting fire to a truck in Doesburg almost eight months ago. The driver who was sleeping in the cab narrowly escaped. The 46-year-old man was seriously injured and was in a coma for months.
The fire was started on the night of 19 to 20 August. The truck was then parked next to a transport company. The driver was awakened by a bang. “He was kicking, pushing and hitting to get the door open. He was fighting for his life,” his sister said more than a week later. Investigation Requested.
Only in November did the police leave Gelderland broadcaster know that the man had awakened from his coma.
It now appears that the police arrested a 46-year-old man from The Hague and a 50-year-old man from Delft last week. Yesterday a third suspect was arrested, a 44-year-old man from Dordrecht. The men are being interrogated. More arrests are not ruled out.
The police tracked down the suspects after in Investigation Requested images were shown of the suspected arsonists. Based on this, about twenty tips were received, which have now led to the arrests after months of investigation.
Nothing is yet known about a motive for the arson. However, a truck from the same transport company had already been set on fire. That happened in October 2019, in a car park in Northern Italy. No one was injured then. The same driver was involved in the incident.
