Tinder owner pays founders hundreds of millions

The current owner of Tinder will pay $ 441 million (390 million euros) to the founders of the dating app. This payment puts an end to a dispute over the valuation of stock options; a legal dispute that has been ongoing since 2018 in the U.S. The founders of Tinder claimed that Match Group, the current owner of Tinder, and its then parent company, InterActiveCorp (IAC), had undervalued Tinder on the base of wrong numbers.

Match and IAC estimated the app was worth $ 3 billion in 2017 when the company was reportedly worth four times that amount. The founders and their early workers had options on roughly 20% of Tinder’s shares. Tinder was established in 2012 and has over 10 million paying users. These can meet in “matching“with a potential partner. Match Group is no longer part of IAC. The company also has other dating apps like Hinge, Meetic and OKCupid.
