A little blue sky in the gray. After announcing that students could continue to go to class, despite the new confinement coming into force on Friday to stem the coronavirus pandemic, Emmanuel Macron also spoke on Wednesday evening of the situation of seniors.

In strict compliance with the rules

Again, unlike last spring, visits to retirement homes and nursing homes will be authorized, announced the President of the Republic during his televised address. The visits will be made “in strict compliance with sanitary rules”, and must make it possible “to prevent the human tragedies that we experienced in the spring from arising, that single people, at the end of their life, find themselves totally isolated” .

During the first confinement, the suffering generated by the stopping of visits to the oldest people had been particularly pointed out. In March, a few days before the general confinement, visits to nursing homes had indeed been completely prohibited for a month, to curb the epidemic, but these precautions did not prevent the Covid-19 from wreaking havoc in nursing homes. Visits then resumed very gradually from April.

In addition, Emmanuel Macron announced this Wednesday evening to wish “that people with disabilities can benefit from the flexibility they need” during this new confinement, without giving further details.
