Winner of the Flèche wallonne last week, Dylan Teuns, one of the headliners of this 75th edition, offered himself this Wednesday in Romont the 1st stage of the Tour de Romandie, which had started the morning of La Grande Béroche, with 178.40 km on the programme, including 3,000 meters of elevation gain.

In a final reserved for punchers, the 30-year-old Belgian, who enjoys this kind of finish – like during the Huy wall – won by beating Rohan Dennis in extremis, whom he “jumped” a meter of the line. Already second in the prologue the day before, the Australian, who was so close to a double blow, had to be content with the leader’s green jersey which he stole from Briton Ethan Hayter, caught in a collective fall 13.6 km from the arrival.

Antoine Debons elected best combative

The Swiss Marc Hirschi who had his sights set on this stage finished 3rd, 16 seconds behind the leader. Best Helvetian overall (5th), Mauro Schmid now wears the jersey of the best young player. Escaped for more than 100 kilometers in the company of his compatriot Valère Thiébaud, the Valaisan Antoine Debons was elected best combatant of the day.

The 2nd stage of this Tour de Romandie will take place this Thursday around Echallens.

If the Tour de Romandie peloton does not stop in Geneva this week, the City of Calvin, which will host the last stage of the women’s loop on October 9, will be back on the profile of the women’s race next season. This is what Richard Chassot suggested on Tuesday in Lausanne. “Geneva, which is one of the most loyal cities in history, has not been forgotten, on the contrary, smiles the Broyard boss of the TdR. But for different reasons, as a result of the pandemic, we had a lot of competition with the applications for this 75th edition. But bike lovers in Geneva can be reassured, in our 2023 project we have already planned an arrival in Geneva!”
