Apple announced its fall keynote on Friday which will take place in a few days and the Nintendo Switch OLED is unfortunately already out of stock at several retailers just a week after its release. A week rich in news but also in tests! Immerse yourself in Tom’s Guide’s recap of the week!

Will PCR tests soon be replaced by air analyzes?

While the detection of Covid-19 is currently done by nasal or saliva swab, and / or by surface swab, Singaporean researchers and doctors have discovered a new method to detect the virus in the air. The latter consists in detecting the RNA of SARS-CoV-2 – the nucleic acid encoding the virus responsible for COVID-19 – inside buildings by a simple analysis of the ambient air. Following the researchers’ tests, the results were very encouraging since the analysis of the air would be seven times more effective than the surface tests to detect the Covid-19.

Where to find the Nintendo Switch OLED?

Only a week after its release, the Nintendo Switch OLED seems to be enjoying the same beginnings as competing consoles and are already out of stock in several online stores. For a price higher than the recommended price, you can still get the new Switch at Micromania and PicwicToys. It will therefore be necessary to be careful of scalpers who risk obtaining large quantities of OLED Switch to then resell them at a high price on the second-hand market, as is already the case for the PS5 for example.

3 million miles of free charging for a Tesla fan

Andy Slye is a Tesla fan and often talks about the brand on his Youtube channel. While Tesla offers free charging kilometers to its referrals as part of a sponsorship program, Andy Slye has accumulated the equivalent of 3,219,000 kilometers of free charging. Unfortunately the sponsorship program has just been stopped. Andy Slye is determined to take up the challenge of using all of his free kilometers before their expiration date in May 2023. According to our calculations, the Youtuber would have to travel nearly 6000 km per day, every day, up to ‘to May 2023… We wish him good luck!

Our tests of the week

The Nintendo Switch OLED offers a quality screen

Nintendo launched the Switch Oled on October 8 and this new console has the particularity of embedding a magnificent Oled screen in nomadic mode and its contrast is striking. Its multi-position stand is solid and very practical, autonomy has been improved and its storage capacity has increased from 32 to 64 GB. Unfortunately the OLED Switch will not be spared by the Joy-Con Drift. On the sound side, we were a little disappointed with its quality in wired mode.

Huawei revisits its mid-range ultrabook with the Matebook 14s

We tested the Matebook 14s which will be available from October 25 at the retail price of 1349 euros. We like its good battery life, its performance and its high-definition, more fluid calibrated screen. Huawei offers the ultrabook in a new pretty green colourway and has made improvements to sound and touchscreen. We also appreciate the fingerprint reader which has been integrated into the start button. Besides the fact that we would have preferred to discover a processor with 6 or 8 cores, the Matebook 14s is a very good laptop.

AMD’s Radeon RX 6600 graphics card is perfect for Full HD gaming

The Radeon RX 6600 is sold as a card intended for Full HD gaming and the challenge is largely met, provided ray-tracing is not activated. The RDNA2 architecture indeed shows its limits in the face of competition. In our test, we found that the Radeon RX 6600 more or less on par with NVIDIA’s RTX 3060. Unfortunately the biggest black point remains the price and the availability of this new graphics card, still victim of a shortage which leads to an increase in its price in store.

A comparison between the Nintendo Switch Oled, the Switch and the Switch Lite

The three consoles offer three different uses: the Switch Lite is intended for 100% nomadic use, with its compact size and a smaller LCD screen. The new OLED Switch is a 50% home, 50% outdoor console: it is indeed also suitable for nomadic sessions with its OLED screen whose technology allows the display of vivid colors and infinite contrast. In our opinion, it is the latter that offers the best screen quality. In terms of power, all Switches have the same technical sheet as well as the famous Mariko platform. In terms of autonomy, the OLED Switch offers the longest playing time. With the exception of the Switch Lite, the other two consoles are optimal for playing on a TV. To play with several people on the go, the OLED version wins, in particular thanks to its better quality panel, with a bonus point for its new solid and multi-position foot.

We take stock of the best browsers in 2021

The Internet browsers offer is regularly renewed according to the updates proposed by the main players in this market. With almost 60% of the market share, Chrome is the most used browser. The other essential browser is none other than Firefox, which has the strengths of being free and respecting the privacy of users. Microsoft Edge Chromium has the advantage of being directly integrated with Windows and the Microsoft environment. We like Opera for its free VPN, Vivaldi for its ultra customization and Brave for its speed. Finally, the official and default MacOS browser, Safari, will therefore have the best integration within the Apple universe.
