Tragedy in Risaralda: victims of landslide in rural area of ​​Pueblo Rico – Other Cities – Colombia

Nine bodies were found in the search work that lasted until 10:00 p.m. this Sunday and resumed this Monday at 6:00 a.m. in the area of ​​the tragedy that occurred in the rural area of ​​Pueblo Rico, Risaralda.

An avalanche of land broke off and fell on, apparently, several vehicles that were crossing through the rural area of ​​the municipality of Pueblo Rico.

“At the moment, 12 lifeless bodies and eight injured have been reported; three are in the San Jorge hospital and five more have been discharged,” informed the Mayor of Pueblo Rico, Leonardo Siagama.

The bodies are being transferred to the municipal coliseum, where the authorities are trying to make their recognition.

Meanwhile, relief agencies continue to search for at least another 15 people who would continue to be trapped in the rubble.

On one side of the avalanche there were three peasant houses that are still standing, although they suffered some damage. People would have managed to get out of the emergency unharmed, since they were alert several hours ago. According to what was known in a citizen video, since Saturday night the mountain had been falling rock and a smaller vegetal layer was on the road at the time of the tragic event.

Unfortunately, the passing of the hours decreases the possibility of finding more people alive. This, added to the fact that the canine rescue groups were brought to the site on Sunday night, according to the Departmental Risk Management Coordination, did not give a positive response to the identification of life.
