Transcend’s new portable SSD, dubbed the ESD380C, promises ultra-fast 2000MB/s speeds and a shock-resistant aluminum casing.
Transcend is a manufacturer already known on the storage market with a multitude of SD cards, USB keys and SSDs to its credit. It is this last category that interests us here, since the brand is launching a new portable SSD model, the ESD380C. This renewal of the range does not upset the design of the series, only the color of the rubber protection changing from blue to green.
This improves the resistance of the SSD a little more, which retains its aluminum casing, a tougher and generally more aesthetic material than the plastic used on entry-level models. It also dissipates heat better, which is important when processing large files in order to maintain stable speeds during data transfer.
Impressive speeds (in theory)
This external SSD fits in the hand and therefore remains quite compact without however reaching the size or the featherweight of the smallest models such as the WD My Passport for example. The manufacturer promises ultra-fast speeds of 2000 MB / s, thus doubling the speed of older models thanks to the transition to the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20 Gb / s) standard. Attractive speeds on paper that will need to be verified during a test, of course, especially since it is not known whether this applies to read and write speeds. Available in storage capacities up to 2TB, the SSD simply plugs in using a UBS-C to UBS-C cable, but a USB-C to USB-A cable is also included.
Finally, the ESD380C comes with the proprietary Transcend Elite software which allows you to protect your files with passwords. We do not yet know the price of the different SSD configurations, but the 1 TB model should easily approach 150-200 €.
