On the morning of this Sunday, a strong earthquake was registered in Peru, which was also felt in Colombia and Ecuador.

The epicenter was in Santa María de Nieva, in Peru, on the border with the Ecuadorian and Colombian Amazon.
According to the Colombian Geological Service, the earthquake was of magnitude 7.4. It was felt in various parts of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The entity indicated that it was intensity 6, which means that it causes slight damage.
The authorities’ report indicated that it occurred at 5:54 in the morning and its depth was 99 kilometers.
The SGC pointed out that it felt in a good part of the national territory, as: Bogotá, Nariño, Huila, Putumayo, Caquetá, Cauca, Cundinamarca, Quindío, Tolima, Valle Del Cauca, Amazonas, Risaralda, Meta, Antioquia, Guaviare, Boyacá, Caldas and Norte de Santander.
Jorge Luis Mendoza, mayor of Leticia, one of the Colombian capitals closest to the epicenter area, pointed out that the earthquake lasted for many seconds. After a first sweep, there are no reports of damage in this city in the Amazon.

For its part, the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) indicated that the epicenter of this telluric movement was located 98 kilometers east of Santa María de Nieva, Condorcanqui province, Amazon region.
Peruvian authorities have already reported the first damage in some areas near the epicenter. In fact already identified a destroyed church and several collapsed roads.
It was also reported on two injured people and another 40 victims in that country.
“All my solidarity with the people of Amazonas in the face of the strong earthquake that occurred. I have arranged for the ministries and different instances of the Executive to deploy immediate actions,” said the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, on social media.
“You are not alone, brothers. We will support those affected and act against material damage,” added the Peruvian leader.
Peru is located in the area called the Pacific Ring of Fire, where approximately 85% of the world’s seismic activity is recorded. In some areas of Peru there were cuts in public services caused by the earthquake.
During the early hours of this Sunday, also in Peru, an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 was registered at around 1:32 am in Lima. According to the IGP, the epicenter of this earthquake was located 44 kilometers west of the Constitutional Province of Callao, and 65 kilometers deep.
Damages in Ecuador
Buildings in southern Ecuador suffered damage from the 7.5 magnitude earthquake registered this morning in Peru, the National Risk and Emergency Management System reported this Sunday, underlining that no victims have been registered.
In a first report, the System indicated that in the canton of Saraguro, in the Andean province of Loja, a house was destroyed and a family was injured, while in the canton of Loja a church tower collapsed and there was damage to the masonry of some houses.
In the canton of Zamora, in the Amazon province of Zamora Chinchipe, the structural collapse of the facade of a house was recorded.
“There are no reports of injured or deceased persons at the national level,” he said in a statement.
