According to reports, Erdogan said that Turkey has put forward the conditions for starting the process of “joining the treaty” between the two countries. If Sweden and Finland do not take the necessary measures to meet the conditions put forward by the Turkish side, the Turkish side will freeze the process of joining the NATO between the two countries.
Erdogan added, “We see that Sweden is not doing well in this regard”.
On May 18, Sweden and Finland ended their military non-alignment history and formally submitted their applications to join NATO to NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg. According to the regulations, NATO must “unanimously agree” on the premise of 30 member states to admit new members.
Since Sweden and Finland expressed their intention to apply for NATO membership, Turkey has clearly expressed its opposition.
