US-Turkish human rights activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, was killed after being shot with live ammunition in the head by Israeli forces (IDF), a move condemned by Turkey and the United States (US).
“We learned with deep regret that our citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was killed by the Israeli occupation forces,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry responded to the report in a statement.
U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the U.S. Department of State is aware of the tragic death of an American citizen, Aysenur Eygi, today in the West Bank.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We are gathering more information about the death as we move forward. We will have more to share as we learn more. We have no higher priority than the safety and security of American citizens,” he said.
“I condemn Israel’s barbaric intervention against civil protests,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wrote in X.
He further stated that Turkey will continue to work on every platform to end the Israeli occupation and genocidal policies that have been going on for almost a year.

Simultaneously with the protests in Beita, a 13-year-old Palestinian girl was killed by IDF gunfire in the village of Kiryat, near Shiloh, and a 34-year-old man was wounded by gunfire in his hand.
According to security sources, army reservists arrived at the scene of the unrest. After dozens of settlers and Palestinians threw stones at each other, the army opened fire in an attempt to disperse the violent incident.
The shooting that caused the girl’s death is under investigation.

In March 2003, American activist Rachel Corrie was killed in Rafah while trying to prevent IDF bulldozers from destroying homes near the border with Egypt.
The IDF has a history of destroying homes and infrastructure used by self-proclaimed terrorist groups.
Nearly a decade later, a Haifa district court judge ruled that Israel was not responsible for Corrie’s death and stated that the soldiers present at the time had done everything they could to prevent harm from being caused to those at the scene.
A month after Corrie’s death, 22-year-old British activist and photography student Tom Hurndall was killed when he was shot in the head by Bedouin-Israeli IDF sniper Taysir Hayb.
Hurndall spent nine months in a coma before dying from his injuries. (Z-2)

US-Turkish Human Rights Activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi Killed by Israeli Forces: International Condemnation and Investigation
On September 8, 2024, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a 26-year-old US-Turkish human rights activist, was fatally shot in the head by Israeli forces while participating in a protest against the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank [[1][2][3]]. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from Turkey, the United States, and human rights organizations around the world.
Eygi, a dual citizen of Turkey and the United States, was an advocate for Palestinian rights and had been involved in several protests and humanitarian efforts in the region. Her death has been met with an outpouring of grief and anger, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan describing the incident as “Israel’s barbaric intervention against civil protests”[[[[[[[[[3]].
The Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued a statement condemning the killing, saying, “We learned with deep regret that our citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was killed by the Israeli occupation forces” [[1]]. The US State Department has also expressed its condolences, with spokesman Matthew Miller stating, “We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We are gathering more information about the death as we move forward”[[[[[[[[[3]].
Eygi’s death is not an isolated incident. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have a history of using deadly force against protesters and civilians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. In March 2003, American activist Rachel Corrie was killed by an IDF bulldozer while trying to prevent the destruction of homes in Rafah, near the Egypt-Gaza border [[]. The IDF has also been accused of destroying homes and infrastructure in Palestinian communities, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
The shooting of Eygi has raised questions about the use of live ammunition by Israeli forces against unarmed protesters. According to security sources, army reservists arrived at the scene of the unrest, and after dozens of settlers and Palestinians threw stones at each other, the army opened fire in an attempt to disperse the violent incident [[]. The shooting that caused the death of a 13-year-old Palestinian girl in the village of Kiryat, near Shiloh, is also under investigation [[].
As international pressure mounts, Eygi’s family is demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances of her death. The United Nations has called for an inquiry into the killing, while human rights organizations are urging the US and Turkish governments to take action to prevent further violence against civilians [[1][2]].
Aysenur Ezgi Eygi’s death is a tragic reminder of the risks faced by human rights activists and civilians in conflict zones. As the international community mourns her loss, it is essential that we demand accountability from governments and security forces to prevent further bloodshed and protect the lives of innocent civilians.
