Manchester: Manchester United advance to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. Manchester United beat Real Madrid 2-0 in the first leg of their World Cup qualifier on Saturday. Cristiano Ronaldo put United ahead in the 78th minute. It was Ronaldo’s sixth goal of the season in the Champions League. Jadan Sancho also found the back of the net for United in the 89th minute. It was Sancho’s first goal of his United career. Michael Carrick has been United’s interim coach since leaving the club.
Barcelona, meanwhile, were left reeling after a goalless draw against Benfica. Xavi’s Barcelona are currently second in Group E with seven points. Strong Bayern to face in the next match. If that happens then the future of Barcelona will depend on the Benfica-Dynamo match.
Chelsea beat Juventus 1-0 in another Champions League match. Chelsea conceded four goals to Turinilate. Chaloba opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Chelsea took the lead in the 55th minute through Reese James. Three minutes later, Hudson Odoi shook Juventus. Werner completed Chelsea’s goal list with just minutes left in the game.
Bayern Munich beat Dynamo Kiev by two goals to one. The match was during heavy snowfall. Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a bicycle kick. Koman took the lead before the end of the first half. Daimano scored a goal in the second half but could not avoid defeat. With this, Bayern reached the knockout stage as group champions.
