The declaration specifically mentions the Indo-Pacific region and China, stating that both the UK and Lithuania believe that China poses a systemic challenge, and the two countries will work with the United States, European partners and regional actors to support free and sustainable economic development in the Indo-Pacific region, safeguard the application of global norms and principles, and defend common interests and values.

The declaration mentions that China is required to abide by its international obligations, including its responsibility for the human rights situation in Hong Kong and Xinjiang. The UK and Lithuania will work with international partners to build mutual economic resilience in the face of arbitrary economic policies and behaviour aimed at coercion.

The declaration emphasized that the two countries expressed concern about China’s support for Russia’s ambitions to change the European security structure. The UK and Lebanon expect China to support Ukraine, which has been illegally invaded by Russia, in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity in accordance with the UN Charter and basic norms of international law, and demand that Russia stop its military attack on Ukraine.
