Ukraine sent NATO a request for international assistance

The Ukrainian authorities sent a request to NATO with a request for international assistance – an appeal was sent by the Ukrainian Emergency Service to the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center.

How informed Alliance press service, assistance is requested in case of possible “large-scale emergencies of a different nature”, in which events “may affect the civilian population.”

In particular, it is indicated that the Ukrainian authorities have requested more than a hundred off-road vehicles, as well as demining and radiochemical reconnaissance equipment.

Earlier, a number of Western media said that intelligence indicates the intention of “Russia to attack Ukraine” on the night of February 16. The UN soon after urged the media to avoid rhetoric leading to an escalation of the crisis. Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation meanwhile announced the return to the places of permanent deployment of military units that were involved in exercises in the regions bordering Ukraine.

On Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin responded to the State Duma’s appeal calling for the recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR, which Kiev had previously compared to Moscow’s withdrawal from the Minsk agreements. The head of state said that “genocide” is being carried out against the population of Donbass, but he spoke about the need to use the levers of the Minsk agreements. Further Russia will act according to the situation, Putin said.
