UNBOXING NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE: We finally got our hands on the holy grail of graphics cards of the moment!

The new generation of graphics cards from NVIDIA was launched at the end of last year with the GeForce RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090. Far from stopping in such a good way, the builder had continued with its surprising GeForce RTX 3060 Ti which has just been followed, on the occasion of CES 2021, of a GeForce RTX 3060 sold (officially) from 329 €.

The GeForce RTX 3090, nicknamed “BFGPU” (for is the most powerful graphics card on the market to date, is up to 50% faster than the TITAN RTX who held this title until then. NVIDIA has also announced that the beast allows players to benefit from 60 frames per second in 8K resolution in many games.

The cards say Founder Edition are those of references sold by NVIDIA, produced in limited quantities and the cheapest (reference price). The other partner manufacturers of the brand produce so-called models customs, which are based on the same architecture, but bring customizations such as different cooling systems, overclocking, different sizes, etc.

As with all graphics cards of the moment, even at AMD, the shortage is essential and succeed in obtaining it – at a reasonable price – is close to a miracle. Those who have been trying to get a PlayStation 5 since its release are well aware of the problem. If you want to know more about this subject, and also about the NVIDIA GPU and the PC configurations that go with it, we invite you to take a look our video podcast with Stéphane Quentin, the brand’s marketing director. Very friendly and very informative.

Having managed to get us a copy of the beast, we thought we could test it right away, but given its impressive size (31x12x5 cm), it does not fit in any of our editorial staff (the monstrous Aurora R10 Ryzen Edition or the wisest HP Omen Obelisk). We are therefore in the process of assembling a tower in order to finally be able to embark on the battery of tests and be able to play with all the parameters thoroughly on our Samsung Odyssey C49RG90 (5K resolution i.e. 5120 x 1440, 120 Hz, 4 ms, HDR 1000, QLED) and in virtual reality with our HP Reverb G2. A test is coming as soon as possible. In the meantime, we have decided to share with you the photos of our GeForce RTX 3090 and you will find them on the next page.
