United States: Concerts for vaccinated people

It was unimaginable just a few weeks ago, but in 10 days, on June 20, the Foo Fighters are going to give a concert in a Madison Square Garden which should be packed.

Nearly 15,000 fans are expected for what will be New York’s first major post-pandemic concert.

How is it possible ? All spectators will need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to be admitted.

The same rule will apply for the series of 30 performances that Bruce Springsteen will give in one of the Broadway theaters this summer.

In the United States, the deconfinement of the entertainment industry has moved into second gear. Hardly a day goes by without an amphitheater or festival announcing concerts for the summer or fall.

In many cases, a vaccination passport or a negative test carried out within the previous 24 hours is required. This is the case of the Lollapalooza festival, which expects 100,000 people a day at Grant Park in Chicago, at the end of July.

<p>In Quebec, the RÉMI (Regroupement des évents major internationals) is in favor of studying “the need to present vaccine proof or a negative test for COVID-19 provided that this makes it possible to organize larger gatherings than those who are planned for the moment ”, writes its president, Martin Roy, in <a rel=a recent newsletter published on the TourismExpress website.

Currently, the maximum capacity for an event is 2,500 people.

“We must speed things up,” said the Journal Mr. Roy, who insisted that this measure would be temporary.

If passed quickly, he argues, it would make it possible to organize larger events in late summer or early fall. “We need predictability. You have to know what will happen in three months, ”argues Martin Roy.

Patience in Quebec

Otherwise, Quebecers will have to be patient before the return of the big concerts in front of thousands of people in the big amphitheatres of Montreal and Quebec.

At the Bell Center, six concerts are on the schedule by the end of 2021. Already, it is expected that that of James Taylor, on September 18, will be postponed, while the fate of the double program Enrique Iglesias / Ricky Martin, the October 9, is uncertain.

The others (Harry Styles, MALUMA, Genesis and Marc Anthony) are still on the schedule, for now at least, like the concerts of Deftones, Megadeth, Stars On Ice, Scooby-Doo and The Lost City of Gold, Judas Priest, Paul Piché and Polo & Pan, at Place Bell in Laval.

In Quebec City, the only show scheduled at the Videotron Center by the end of 2021 is Megadeth. As in Laval, its presentation will depend on the sanitary measures that will be in effect in October.

Moreover, the big boss of the Videotron Center, Martin Tremblay, is working on a return to normal in 2022.

“We are behind Public Health. We will comply with the standards. Until we get approval, we can’t plan these tours. I still hope that it can happen rather in the fall of 2021, ”he says.
