- Renovation work prevents Kamala Harris from moving into official residence.
- The Vice President therefore temporarily resides in the guest house of US President Joe Biden.
The new US Vice President Kamala Harris has not yet moved into its official residence due to renovation work. She and her husband Doug Emhoff have been living in the US President’s guest house, the Blair House, right across from the White House, as Harris’ spokeswoman Symone Sanders said on Saturday. It was initially unclear how long they would stay there.
US Vice Presidents have lived in a residence on the grounds of the Naval Observatory, about three kilometers from the White House. Previously, media reports had already said that the house built in 1893 after the departure of the previous Vice President Mike Pence among other things, the chimney hoods would have to be replaced. The residence has 33 bedrooms, according to the Washington Post. The Blair House, on the other hand, consists of four individual buildings and has more than 120 rooms. There are 18 full-time employees there. The US President’s residence in the White House has 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms.
Harris, who was US Senator for the State of California until shortly before she was sworn in as Vice President, recently lived partly in an apartment in the capital Washington. (br / dpa)
