USA: Saudi Embassy is now in the “Khashoggi Way” – News Abroad

Washington – A memorial against forgetting a bestial murder.

On October 2, 2018, the journalist and regime critic Jamal Khashoggi († 59) was interrogated, tortured and finally murdered in the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul.

Now, when the Saudis look out the window of their embassy in Washington, it is denounced like a memorial: a street sign that bears the name “Jamal Khashoggi Way.”

Part of New Hampshire Avenue is now called Jamal Khashoggi Way. A protest sign by activist Claude Taylor hung here in 2018. Now the street has been officially renamed.

Washington City Council unanimously voted last December to name the stretch of street after the Washington Post journalist who, according to the CIA, was assassinated on the orders of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Washington has a long history of teasing foreign governments about changing street names—part of Wisconsin Avenue in front of the Russian Embassy was renamed Boris Nemtsov Plaza. Activist Claude Taylor put up a sign on March 7 renaming the embassy’s front door “President Zelensky Way.”
