Val-d’Oise: a man kills his wife and commits suicide after taking refuge with her in their business

A man and his wife were found dead this Thursday evening after he took refuge with her in the landscaping company of which they were co-managers in Domont, in the Val-d’Oise. The husband, who previously injured two company employees, killed his wife before turning the gun on him, according to sources close to the investigation at AFP.

This 58-year-old man was in the process of separating from his companion and was already known for acts of domestic violence, according to the Pontoise prosecutor’s office, which specifies that he had been referred twice, in 2019 and 2020, and convicted of violence against his wife, aged 44. According to The Parisian, the couple had been divorcing for a year.

Warned shortly before 6 p.m., a hundred gendarmes had been mobilized on the spot while the two injured employees, one by firearm in the thigh and the second by shrapnel, were taken care of by the emergency services. In addition to the hundred or so gendarmes, the GIGN quickly arrived on the scene. In 2019, 146 women were killed by their spouse or ex-partner, 25 more than the previous year, according to official figures.
