Valérie, mother of two children, had just made a new start but lost her life, mowed down by a vehicle: “She was a wonderful mother”

Tuesday around 11:00 a.m., a vehicle hit a 45-year-old jogger on the Bilterweg in Houpertange. The van was coming from opposite and hit Valerie as she was on the left side of the road towards Zepperen.

The impact, which claimed the life of the pedestrian, occurred less than 150 meters from her home. The driver, a 24-year-old man, committed a hit-and-run but then surrendered to the Looz police. He will appear before the Tongres investigating judge on Wednesday, announced press magistrate Katrien Truyen of the Limburg prosecutor’s office.

A golden friend

This mother had just moved to Hoepertingen with her 12 and 14 year old children. She wanted to make a fresh start following a breakup with her partner. “She was very sporty and always cycled or jogged,” says Mireille Louwet, Valérie’s best friend, to our colleagues from Nieuwsblad.

She explains that she lost her father a few days ago, and that it was another friend who told her the news of Valérie’s death, when she was returning from Paris. “Friday, Valérie came to offer her condolences and gave me a big hug. I could never have imagined then that it would be the last hug of my best friend, ”she regrets.

She describes Valérie as a woman with a heart of gold: “It was impossible to argue with her. She was capable of anything for others. His two children were the most precious thing to him. She was a wonderful mom and friend and will be sorely missed. »
