Kees van Kooten and Wim de Bie have been named the very best duo in Dutch television history, reports RTL Boulevard Monday. The election was organized by the VARA guide. The results will be officially announced in the guide on Tuesday.
A jury of nine television connoisseurs has decided that Kees van Kooten and Wim de Bie deserve the award. The jury included Roy van Vilsteren, chief editor of the VARA guide, media historian Huub Wijfjes and formerNRCcritic Hans Beerekamp.
In total there could be voted for sixty duos including Mike and Thomas, Plien and Bianca, Bassie and Adriaan and Carlo and Irene. Frits Barend and Henk van Dorp finished in second place for their talk show Barend and Van Dorp. Third place is for Arjan Ederveen and Tosca Niterink with them Theo & Theashows and Creative with Cork.
The main criterion was the question to what extent the members of the duo strengthened each other when they were seen on television together.
Van Kooten and De Bie won by an overwhelming majority of the votes: seven of the nine jury members thought the duo deserved to win. The duo has been creating satirical programs for VPRO for nearly thirty years, including Simplisties Covenant, Watched the Week and Crash Crunch.
The cabaret duo came up with all kinds of different types, such as Jakobse and Van Es, Gé and Arie Temmes, the Klisjeemannetjes, mother and son Van Putten and de Vieze Man.
