Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the opposition VD Satheesan wants toll collection to be stopped due to potholes and accidents on the national highway. Satheesan said that toll should not be collected without repairing the roads. Satheesan’s reaction was on the incident of the death of a biker who fell into a pothole in Nedumbassery.

Earlier, the government used to make arrangements for digging the pit. Now the contractors have to do it. An irresponsible approach created the problem. Kerala is full of pits. Now someone’s life has been lost. Many people are at risk. There are people lying in hospitals with broken arms and legs. Satheesan accused the government of not taking any responsibility in any of this.

“This is a systematic murder. It is the duty of the government to properly fill the potholes and repair the roads before the monsoons. It was not done.”- said Satheesan. Satheesan said that he is going to directly ask Thrissur Collector and Ernakulam Collector not to collect toll under any circumstances without repairing the highway and closing potholes.

Minister Muhammad Riaz says that the failure of the National Highways Authority is the cause of the accident. There are potholes not only on the national highway. If the National Highways Authority does not do it, who will do it for them? Are you local? The Kerala government and the Public Works Department should do it – said Satheesan.
