Yannick Bestaven (Maître Coq IV) continues to maintain his lead over Charlie Dalin (Apivia) at the head of the Vendée Globe. As the two sailors approach Cape Horn, Dalin was 165.5 miles behind the leader, about twenty more than the day before at 6:00 p.m. Both intend to take advantage of the storm expected to pass Cape Horn in the hope of swinging into the Atlantic with a sufficient mattress on the competition led by a Thomas Roût (LinkedOut) at 466 miles.
The news is not good for Sébastien Destremeau, 27e and last in the ranking. The skipper of Merci announced to the race management that he was on the verge of retirement due to numerous technical problems (lack of autopilot and tiller system). If he does not manage to resolve them in the next few hours with his assistance, he will have to dismount before considering returning to Les Sables-d’Olonne out of the race.
