The voting, which was scheduled for December 30, was then postponed to January 3 at 11 in the morning. However, it ended up being at 11 at night due to disagreements between the deputies.

In addition, there were votes saved from some deputies who claimed that the agreement was distributed a few hours after starting the session.

The extension of the functions of Juan Guaidó and of the Assembly was approved through the modification of the Transition Statute, a document that has served as the legal basis since the interim government was created in 2019.

However, this modification comes with several details, which were the high points: from now on the delegate commission – which is made up of the presidents of the permanent committees of the legislature – has greater control over the figure of the interim president.

The government center is also eliminated, through which actions of the interim government were coordinated and which was headed by Leopoldo Lopez and he had other positions such as the commissioner of foreign relations whose representative was Julio Borges, the commissioner before the United Nations, the special attorney, and others. This center of government was comparable to a cabinet of ministers.

The proposal of these modifications was announced by the first vice president of the parliament Juan Pablo Guanipa. In this new stage, with the support of 55 countries, there will be more controls in the Boards to this and everything related to assets abroad.
