Viagra could be used to treat Alzheimer’s

Viagra, this little blue pill prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction, could help in the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s, according to a new study by American researchers.

The study was carried out by a team of researchers from the Cleveland Clininc and published in the scientific journal Nature Aging.

Tests done on cells suggest that the drug targets some of the proteins that build up in someone with this form of dementia, reports the BBC.

The team analyzed data from more than 7 million patients, according to a statement from the Cleveland Clinic.

Research concludes that sildenafil, found in Viagra and Revatio, a drug for pulmonary hypertension, would reduce the development of Alzheimer’s disease by 69%.
