During Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it continuously bombed civilian houses, causing civilian casualties, and there were also many incidents of Russian soldiers attacking civilians. Russia attacked the Ukrainian city of Izium in June last year. At that time, a Ukrainian aerial camera captured a video of a Russian soldier shooting and abandoning civilians. Subsequent investigations also intercepted the conversation between the soldier and his family and friends. Ukraine Police have accused him of war crimes, which will appear in the documentary “Follow Me.”

Ukrainian police shared key footage exclusively with CNN ahead of a press conference in Kharkiv. The Ukrainian front-line troops on the Izyum battlefield used an aerial camera to take pictures at that time. The Ukrainian and Russian armies were confronting each other along the road. At that time, a couple drove into the line of fire of both sides by mistake and were shot by the Russian army. The two got out of the car Escaped on foot, but turned back because the explosion was too close, and was attacked by the Russian army again.

Ukrainian army drones spotted the couple as husband Andrii Bohomaz was shot in the head and lay in a pool of blood on the road while wife Valeria Ponomarova yelled at the drone. After that, the Ukrainian army posted “follow me” (follow me) on the drone. After seeing it, Panolova, who was wearing a red dress, followed the drone along the asphalt road and retreated to the rear of the Ukrainian army.

In another video, it can be seen that when Panolova left, two Russian soldiers appeared next to the vehicle and worked together to lift the seriously injured Pohamaz and discarded it in the trench. After spending the night in the trench, Pohamaz woke up to the rain and crawled out. Pohamaz recalled that it took “probably 30 or 40 minutes” to limp to the Ukrainian army line, and he had to endure excruciating pain all over his body to move forward.

Pohamaz and Panolova drove in the direction of Izyum to help Pohamaz’s elderly and sick parents escape from the urban area controlled by the Russian army. He was then shot by the Russian army. Although Pohamaz, who was shot by the Russian army, escaped death, he is still receiving treatment for his brain, chest and spine nine months after the incident.

The case of Ukraine’s investigation of Russian war crimes also includes this matter. In an intercepted call, a Russian soldier told his family and friends about the relevant content. He told his wife: “I killed a person today.” He also asked his wife to “put some money into my mobile phone today, okay?” In another phone call, he also said to a friend, “The damn car ran out, and I don’t care about it.”

The Ukrainian police identified the soldier as Klim Kerzhaev, a 25-year-old commander from Moscow who served in the 2nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 1st Tank Army of the Western Military District of the Russian Army. He was therefore charged with war crimes by the Ukrainian authorities under Article 438 of the Law of War. After Russia sent troops to invade Ukraine, many conscious Ukrainians will save videos of the Russian army’s atrocities. Documentary directors have also started production. The couple’s experience will also be included in the documentary “Follow Me”.
