VIDEO. The Gorges du Verdon, an unmissable landscape in France

| |

No need to go to the other end of the world to appreciate landscapes worthy of an island paradise. The proof with Gorges du Verdon, an emblematic French landscape from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. This canyon has been dug over the centuries by the Verdon river. With its cliffs reaching 700 meters in height, it is considered the highest in Europe. In addition to her emerald colored river surrounded by vertiginous white cliffs, the place shelters a unique wild life with many endemic species. The emblematic animal is notably the griffon vulture which overhangs the cliffs in search of its prey …

To discover this place, several means exist: it is possible to take the Corniche Sublime, a road which overhangs the “Grand Canyon”, to walk on one of the hiking trails taking advantage of the many lookouts or even to descend on the water aboard a canoe-kayak. On the limestone rock, more than 1,500 climbing routes make it a site very appreciated by climbers. By welcoming nearly a million visitors a year, the Verdon gorges are a tourist hotspot. Since 1997, they belong to the Verdon Regional Natural Park which aims to preserve the ecological value of this unique landscape.
