vigil in memory of the victims

Many residents of the city of London in the Canadian province of Ontario (center) gathered on Tuesday evening in front of the city’s mosque to pay their respects in memory of the four members of the same Muslim family killed in a ram truck attack, local media reported.

The “Oxford West” thoroughfare, located near the Muslim place of worship, was closed to traffic due to this large gathering, which also saw people flocking from other towns in the province of Ontario. to attend the vigil, which was also broadcast on social networks.

It should be noted that, shortly before the start of the vigil, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived at the scene where he laid a wreath of flowers on the steps of the mosque.

Bluntly condemning this attack on Monday, Trudeau said in an intervention in the House of Commons that “this terrorist attack is motivated by the hatred that occurred in the heart of one of our communities.”

He added in his speech to federal parliamentarians that this Islamophobic attack “is not an isolated act”.

Recalling that the Muslim community in Canada has been the target, in the past, of several attacks and acts of aggression, in recent years, Trudeau launched: “We must not allow ourselves to be desensitized. We cannot accept that it becomes normal ”.

An attack on the Muslim family, which took place at around 8:40 p.m. on Sunday evening, saw a driver of a black van climb onto the sidewalk to intentionally mow, according to witnesses, five people from the same family.

The 20-year-old perpetrator of the quadruple homicide, arrested immediately after his act, was charged with four counts of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

A nine-year-old boy survived this Islamophobic act, while the other four members died, either instantly (a 74-year-old woman) or to the hospital where they were rushed (a man from 46, a 44-year-old lady and a 15-year-old teenager).

Note that an online fundraising campaign launched for the benefit of the 9-year-old child who survived the attack raised more than $ 400,000 in the space of 24 hours.
