President-elect Biden won in the state of Georgia. This was confirmed by a recount. Accordingly, the Democrat is still 12,200 votes ahead of Trump.
After the Georgia US presidential vote recounted, state authorities confirmed Democrat Joe Biden’s victory.
The re-counting of the votes by hand showed “that the original machine-based vote count correctly reproduced the winner of the election,” said the website of the Georgia election officer, Brad Raffensperger, that evening.
Recount due to extremely tight election results
The Georgia authorities had decided to recount because of the extremely tight election result. According to the first machine count, Biden was only around 14,000 votes ahead of incumbent Donald Trump. After the recounting by hand, Biden’s lead decreased slightly to 12,200 votes.
Because Biden’s lead was still very narrow, the US president could apply for a new count after the election results were recorded, Raffensperger’s statement said. Trump has not yet recognized his defeat against opposition candidate Biden and denounces alleged massive electoral fraud without any evidence.
