Vuelta – Primoz Roglic wins stage 4 and secures overall lead

“It was a high pace all day, a very fast stage. Then in the final sprint there was an opportunity to win – and since I had the legs to do it, I tried it,” explained Primoz Roglic, who after 3: 31:05 hours came to the finish.

The 32-year-old confidently grabbed the day’s success, which was also rewarded with taking the overall lead.

That was previously held by teammate Edoardo Affini.

Second place in Laguardia went to Denmark’s Mads Petersen of Trek Segafredo, followed by Enric Mas (Movistar) of Spain.

The field came together in the last kilometer before Trek-Segafredo started the sprint for Pedersen.

Without success, since Roglic could not be contained. From 13th place, however, there was a gap of seven seconds – Simon Yates (BikeExchange – Jayco), Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) and Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious) lost time as a result.

After Roglic had doubts about his ability to win the Tour of Spain due to the cancellation of the Tour de France and the late start of training, things are now looking good for the champion.
