Former French professional rider Walter Beneteau, 50, was found dead in Indonesia, the UNCP, the professional organization of French cyclists, announced on Sunday in circumstances that have not yet been specified.
“It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of our friend and former champion Walter Beneteau at the age of 50,” communicated the UNCP.
Professional between 2000 and 2006, Walter Beneteau drove for Jean-René Bernaudeau when the latter was technical director in the Bonjour (2000-2002), Brioches La Boulangère (2003-2004) and Bouygues Telecom (2005-2006) teams.
Winner of the Boucles de l’Aulne in 2000 and 2003, Walter Beneteau started the Tour de France seven times between 2000 and 2006
