Warehouse in flames – fire department warns residents

Smoke over the south of Hamburg: Dozens of emergency services are fighting a major fire in a warehouse in the Wilhelmsburg district. The fire is now also affecting rail operations.

Up to around 150 emergency services fought with the flames. The THW supports with wheel loaders, tweeted the fire brigade. According to the fire brigade, the approximately 60 by 40 meter hall is a storage location for cardboard boxes and packaging material. Due to the heavy smoke development, residents were asked to keep their windows and doors closed.

Warning to residents

According to the fire department, the fire is spreading to the east. The authorities therefore warn the population of the heavy smoke development. Veddel, Harburg, Billbrock, Moorfleet, Wilhelmsburg, Billstedt, Öjendorf, Oststeinbek, Glinde, Neuschönningstedt and Reinbek are affected, according to an official warning. Among other things, the fire brigade recommends avoiding the affected area and paying attention to announcements from the police and fire brigade.

According to the fire brigade, there were significant traffic obstructions in the area directly around the place of use. According to the police, no one was injured in the fire. The operation will continue for several hours.
