It is the first time that PepsiCo is selling its popular brands as a syrup for aerators.
There are currently cola, soda and juice concentrates from Sodastream, Tritop, FruttaMax, Monin, Spitz, Tate and Lyle, Teisseire or Torani. Fair trade and organic products from Hölllinger or Coffee & Flavor are particularly popular. They also offer syrups for apple juice or coffee drinks.
Despite their increasing popularity, the many brands of syrups do not come close to the taste of Coca-Cola or Pepsi. That could change with the Pepsi syrup.
Like US archrival Coca-Cola, Pepsi has long been struggling with a slowdown in its core business of high-calorie soft drinks. The company already has a good counterweight with snacks such as potato and tortilla chips from the Cheetos or Doritos brands and the Quaker Oats cereal.
Sparkling mineral water is increasingly becoming a bestseller worldwide. The company does not provide information on the exact market volume of Sodastream in Germany on request. According to industry experts, however, the demand for water aerators has increased by 42 percent in recent years.
This is another reason why PepsiCo put around 2.8 billion euros (3.2 billion US dollars) on the table for the Sodastream takeover at the end of 2018.
