Prof. Jean-François Timsit is head of the medical resuscitation and infectious diseases department at Bichat hospital in Paris.
LE FIGARO. – What is the situation in your hospital?
Jean-François TIMSIT. – Of the 47 resuscitation beds we have, 44 were occupied Tuesday morning. We will still open 6 additional beds in the recovery room. Thereafter, the capacity may be increased by about fifteen beds, provided that we have the staff and equipment. We do a lot of things that would normally be impossible. There is a huge effort on all sides to move the lines, push the walls, create beds. But despite this, it is obvious that the health system will find itself in great difficulty in the Paris region.
Have you ever had reinforcement?
Yes, when the clinics closed, several nurses from the private sector sent their CVs to come and help. We have already hosted two this week. We also had reinforcement
