The works started at the Santiago-Bernabeu stadium in 2019 are coming to an end. According to El Chiringuito, the inauguration of the brand new enclosure in a ceremony “similar to the Superbowl” is scheduled for December 23.
After four years of work, Real Madrid is nearing the goal. Started in 2019, the renovation of the Santiago-Bernabeu stadium is almost complete and, according to information from El Chiringuito, the new Madrid stadium should be inaugurated with great fanfare on December 23.
According to the Spanish television channel and its whimsical presenter Josep Pedrerol, the Merengue club will celebrate the entry into this new era with a ceremony “similar to the Superbowl”. Nothing has yet leaked about these celebrations, but the show should be there. The inauguration was originally scheduled for December 2022 on the occasion of the stadium’s 75th anniversary.
At the cutting edge of technology
The new Santiago-Bernabeu will be at the cutting edge of technology and will be able to accommodate up to 81,000 spectators. It will notably have a gigantic 360-degree LED screen and a retractable roof, with a large promenade all around.
Real Madrid players had been forced to leave their legendary stadium due to works for 560 days, between March 2020 and September 2021. In the meantime, they had played at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium, in their training center.
