Despite the Covid-19 pandemic that has brought football to a standstill for much of the year, the past 12 months have been marked by great victories, incredible goals and memorable titles. FIFA.com looks back in figures for the year 2020.
The numbers one: the best players and coaches of the year 2020 were awarded at the ceremony of The Best FIFA Football Awards™. Lucy Bronze (FIFA player), Robert Lewandowski (FIFA player), Sarina Wiegman (FIFA Coach for Women’s Football), Jürgen Klopp (FIFA Coach for Men’s Football), Sarah Bouhaddi (FIFA Goalkeeper), Manuel Neuer (FIFA Goalkeeper), Son Heungmin (Prix Puskás de la FIFA), Marivaldo Francisco da Silva (FIFA Fan Award) and Mattia Agnese (FIFA Fair Play Award) won in the different categories. In addition, Marcus Rashford moved back first FIFA Foundation Special Prize as a reward for his work in the charitable field.
Two exceptional champions have passed away this year. Diego Armando Maradona and Paolo Rossi died on November 25 and December 9, respectively. These genius players will leave a great void on the football planet.
