what are the 6 main differences with the iPhone 13

The legion of product fans Apple had its special celebration on Wednesday with the announcement of four versions of the iPhone 14an improvement in the quality of taking images and a larger screen for the Plus and Pro Max versions.

Initially, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have an aesthetic very similar to that of the previous model, the successful 13. The main difference between the two is the OLED screen size: 6.1 (90.2 cm) vs. 6.7 inches (109.8 cm), 1,200 nits brightness, and Dolby Vision.

The new top of the range version –iPhone 14 Pro y Pro Max– is powered by a chip A16 (the iPhone 14 continues with the A15) manufactured with 4 nanometer technology, and a maximum 2,000 nits screen, capable of lowering the refresh rate to 1 Hz when the information on the screen does not change to save energy consumption.

Although when comparing it with the previous edition, a handful of novelties stand out, the rest of the design is similar to that seen on the iPhone 13: stainless steel, matte glass on the back, and a huge camera module. There is little difference in this aspect with what is seen in the models of the previous generation. The price will also be the same.

Then six o’clock main differences between iPhone 13 and iPhone 14.

most powerful camera

The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max released, for the first time, a 48 megapixel camera sensor with Pixel Binning technology, which makes better use of lighting per pixel. It is 65% larger than last yearwith OIS built into the sensor.

This combination of 4 pixels in 1 (to capture at 12 megapixels), is something known in its rival Android, although Apple promises to rely on your ISP – the key to putting the exact color in a photograph – so that it makes more sense. What’s more, Apple promised double the brightness on all sensors (in low light conditions).

Likewise, the apple company seems to trust the sharpness of its iPhone, to the point that the “Pro” version is capable of shoot with a 2X zoom digitally and natively, without the user having to do it manually. In case you need to go further, the telephoto is still a 3X.

Another fact to take into account about the cameras of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max is the possibility of shoot in 48 megapixel mode.

As for the videos, the new “action mode” aims to help capture smooth-looking video that adjusts for significant shake, movement, and vibration, even when the video is captured in the middle of the action.

It was also improved “cinematic mode”first introduced in last year’s iPhone 13 series – you can now record in 4K at 30fps and 4K at 24fps using the feature.

ProMotion is the name that Apple used to refer to the adaptive refresh rate (framerate) in their products and that can go up to 120Hz. In other words, if the user uses a word processor that does not require such a high rate, but is playing a video game, the ideal is for it to be refreshed at the highest rate possible to generate smoother images.

Satellite emergency calls

From the company of the bitten apple they assured that this new system -similar to the one advanced by the founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk– allows not only issue an emergency call in the event of a traffic accidentas well also send requests for help in areas without any type of connectivity in less than 15 seconds.

An emergency center operated by Apple will receive the messages and route them to local emergency services.

The service will only be available initially in the US and Canada and will not start until November. for the moment it will be free for iPhone 14 users for two yearsas promised from Apple.

More visual and dynamic notifications

Another of the great novelties in the new iPhone 14 Pro, which has, as expected, a new screen: does not include the notch for Face IDbut a pill-shaped perforation that Apple calls “Dynamic Island” (Dynamic Islandin English).

The characteristic notch was replaced by a small cutout not attached to the frame of the screen that Apple, in which the front camera is located, and that emit notifications in an animated way.

Dynamic Island is expected to not only work with native Apple apps, but is open to third party appsso that any service can interact with this new form of visualization.

Goodbye SIM card: welcome to the eSim

Another novelty in the iPhone 14 family, at least for the US market, is in connectivity since will not be sold with the traditional removable SIM chip tray; it will only come with its digital simile e.ga standard that has been on the market for several years,

In this sense, many phones -including the iPhone- incorporated this form of connectivity to have a secondary line in case you have to use it when traveling to another place in your country of reference.

For example, Motorola launched its Razr folding model in 2020 with the eSim digital card, the only one with this feature that was officially marketed in Argentina. The following year he expanded it to the famous dual SIM that allows you to have two lines on the cell phone.

But now the apple company went for more: those who purchase an iPhone 14 in the United States they will not be able to use their traditional physical chip. We will have to go to the operator and ask them to enable the use of eSIM for our line; Both Claro and Movistar and Personal offer support for eSIM, but in all three cases they require going through a commercial office.

Always On Screen (Always On)

The top models of the new family of Apple smartphones -iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max- now have Always On displaythat is, they keep the screen always on to see the clock and some notifications without having to unlock (and turn on) the screen.

However, Apple will use the same conventional lock screen, but in black and white, and without dynamic updating, thanks to the fact that the OLED screen can be updated at 1 Hz (once per second) to save energy consumption. iPhone 14 and 14 Plus do not have this feature.
