MANCHESTER, KOMPAS.comWar Elizabeth II once attended British weddings that were actually just trying to invite them.

This incident happened to newlyweds Frances and John Canning in March 2012.

They had their wedding reception at Manchester City Hall, and at the last minute before the D-Day an invitation was sent to Queen Elizabeth II as an important VIP guest.

“We wrote him a letter, with a bit of trial and error, and got a nice letter from the long-awaited woman,” the groom told Manchester Evening News.

“We didn’t expect anything more than that,” he continued NY Daily News (26/3/2012).

The Cannings then received a reply from Buckingham Palace staff, writing that the Queen wished them all the best but was unable to attend.

However, the couple were surprised on the wedding day as the palace secretly arranged for Queen Elizabeth II to meet them in person, according to reports. The Sun.

“When we had the reception the staff asked us to wait a bit in the corridor and only a few minutes later the Queen arrived. She knew both our names and we were specially added to her visiting agenda,” the groom told Manchester Evening News.

With Prince Phillip, Queen Elizabeth II toured for a few minutes, taking pictures with guests and congratulating the Cannings on their wedding.

“It was a beautiful gift from them to us, one of the best gifts you could hope for,” John Canning told BBC.
