The competition of Kylian Mbappe vs Erling Braut Haaland is considered to be like Lionel Messi vs Crisiano Ronaldo. This is the comment of Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane.
The spotlight has been on Mbappe and Haaland throughout this week. The two young strikers shone in the Champions League, when Messi and Ronaldo had less than satisfactory results.
Mbappe scored a hat-trick as PSG crushed Barcelona 4-1 at Camp Nou. Meanwhile, Haaland was able to score him a goal when Borussia Dortmund beat Sevilla 3-2 in the first leg of the Champions League last 16.
Mbappe and Haaland stole the attention, apart from scoring goals, also because they started to create seeds for individual competition. Haaland admitted that he appeared on fire because he was whipped up by Mbappe, who could buy a hat-trick against Barcelona.
In total, Mbappe and Haaland’s nicks are also quite terrible at club level. Mbappe has collected 138 goals for PSG and AS Monaco, while Haaland has scored 90 goals with RB Leipzig, Molde and Dortmund.
The two attackers who are only 20 years old are then compared to follow in the footsteps of Messi vs Ronaldo. In fact, it is predicted that Mbappe and Haaland could become the two best players, after the era of Messi and Ronaldo ended – who are now entering their old age.
Responding to that potential, Zidane raised his voice. He considered that there was a chance that Mbappe and Haaland would match him, because their quality was considered equal to Messi and Ronaldo.
“We’ll see, they are very good, like Messi, Cristiano and Neymar,” said Zidane, reported by Marca.
“They are younger, [dan] current and future players, “he said.
