Williams F1 representative “Logan Sargent will eventually reach F1″[F1-Gate.com]

Williams F1 Team Principal Jost Kapito says he is “completely confident” that the team’s development driver Logan Sargent will reach F1 in the future.

American-born Logan Sargent is part of Williams Racing’s driver development team and ran an F1 car for the team at last year’s post-season Abu Dhabi test.

This year, Logan Sargent is scheduled to run in FP1 at his home race weekend, the F1 United States Grand Prix, and Williams F1 team principal Jost Capito has made no secret of how much he appreciates Sargent.

“He will drive a Formula 1 car in the future, I am completely convinced,” said Jost Capito.

“Of course we are impressed. As you know, it’s his first season in Formula 2. We didn’t put any pressure on him. He’s had time to develop and how he’s doing. I was really impressed with how quickly I was able to start understanding the car.”

Logan Sargent, who won two F2 races in July, is third in the championship with four rounds to go. Should an F1 seat become available, the superlicence would need to finish in the top five to earn enough points for his superlicence to graduate to F1.

Alexander Albon has confirmed that he will remain with the Williams F1 team in 2023, but his current teammate Nicholas Latifi’s future beyond 2022 remains unknown.

“Unless the season is over, it’s very difficult to decide anything early about a Formula 2 driver. Of course it’s part of the decision making,” continued Jost Kapito.

“I think we have different options and in the end we’ll go with what we believe is best for the team. But we’re not at that stage yet so it’s too early to give details.”
