WIMBLEDON – Alizé Cornet reveals a “tacit agreement” at Roland-Garros to conceal the cases of Covid

By force, we had almost ended up forgetting it… But after having “let” the circuit tournaments take place more or less normally in recent weeks, the Covid recalled our bad memories by hitting two scarecrows at Wimbledon of the male painting, Marin Cilic and especially Matteo Berrettiniboth tested positive for the virus and forced to withdraw from the London Grand Slam.
A twist of fate that made Alizé Cornet jump, which threw a stone into the pond after qualifying for the 2nd round against Yulia Putintseva by revealing that the women’s locker room had signed a tacit agreement during Roland-Garros not to test themselves and thus not cause serial inconvenience.

“We are not going to self-test so as not to get into trouble”

“When we see that Krejcikova is withdrawing from the doubles because she had the Covid and that behind the whole locker room is sick, there is reason to wonderdeclared the French n°1 at a press conference, in remarks relayed in particular by RMC. At Roland-Garros, I think that indeed there were a few cases and a tacit agreement between us: we are not going to self-test so as not to get into trouble. I saw girls wearing masks because they didn’t want to pass it on… But I won’t say more about it.”

Cornet whistled after his abandonment: “This handful of cretins, it hurts the heart”

The Niçoise also hinted that this tacit agreement was born of a general fed up of the circuit with regard to the anti-Covid rules now deemed too strict. “The Covid, we paid the price. We were under a bubble for a year and a half, we were vaccinated, that’s good. At some point, you have to be consistent on how to proceed. That makes part of our life, that’s how it is. I find that psychosis would be really misplaced at this level when we ate our black bread.

The psychosis is however all the more significant on the spot as Matteo Berrettini and Marin Cilic both trained with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Which have so far passed between the drops. But let’s not forget the incubation period…
