The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) fined the UK Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) for not allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to attend Wimbledon. About it informs Daily Mail, citing an LTA statement.

The LTA has been fined $1 million and threatened with expulsion from the ATP if it wants to keep athletes out of the Grand Slam again next year. The decision of the ATP is subject to appeal.

The LTA said they were deeply disappointed with the ATP decision. “The financial implications of both this fine and the WTA fine will have a significant impact on the LTA’s ability to develop tennis in the country. For example, we planned to run a number of ATP Challenger Series level tournaments to provide more opportunities for lower-ranked players in the first quarter of 2023 and will not be able to do so now, especially given the possibility of further penalties,” the statement said.

Formerly Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for the same reason fined LTA and the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) for a total of $1 million.

AELTC, which is the organizer of Wimbledon, April 20 announced on the exclusion of Russians and Belarusians, calling his decision “a contribution to the large-scale efforts of the UK government, business, sports and creative institutions to limit Russia’s global influence.” The LTA made the same decision. In addition, this decision extended to the tournaments preceding Wimbledon in Eastbourne, Nottingham and Birmingham.

This was opposed by the ATP and WTA, as well as many top tennis players. Both organizations later made a decision to deprive Wimbledon of rating points for the suspension of Russian and Belarusian players. However, the tournaments leading up to Wimbledon retained their ranking points, because the Russians and Belarusians had the opportunity at that time to compete in other countries.
