Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 7) fell in the round of 16 at Wimbledon. The Spanish prodigy suffered the law of Jannik Sinner (13), who had taken out Stan Wawrinka in four sets in the 1st round.
Carlos Alcaraz (19) lost 6-1 6-4 6-7 (8/10) 6-3 to the Italian, a year his senior. The winner of the last Masters 1000 in Miami and Madrid however did not give up in this sumptuous duel, dismissing 2 match points in the tie-break of the 3rd set then three others at 5-2 in the 4th round.
Six match points to win
But Jannik Sinner held on. The Italian concluded this game on his 6th match point, after 3h35 ‘of play, not without having to erase a break point in the last game. He did not concede the slightest service game on the mythical Center Court of Church Road.
Jannik Sinner thus appears for the third time in the quarter-finals of a Major, after Roland-Garros 2020 and Melbourne 2022. Logic would dictate that he finds the six-time winner of the tournament Novak Djokovic (1) in the next round.
